- The Design: The reverse features a dramatic, vibrant coloured design by celebrated Canadian marine artist John Horton. It depicts Sir John Franklin's ill-fated flagship, H.M.S. Erebus, charting through ice-filled Arctic waters, with the H.M.S. Terror following in the background. To honour the history of the vessels, the words "H.M.S. EREBUS" and "H.M.S. TERROR" are meticulously engraved along the coin's plain edge. The obverse features the elegant effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
